2015 Finca Allende Rioja Allende Eta W/O 5-15-2023
Spain is one of the true last spots of the old world where there are still fantastic values to be found, and this is a gorgeous fruit-forward Rioja from a prestigious vintage. Proprietor Miguel Angel de Gregorio founded this estate in 1986. Wine writer Tim Atkin (few are as experienced with Rioja as Tim) refers to the property as a first growth producer in Rioja, which is quite a statement. The vineyards' elevation is about 1,900 feet, with the average age of the vines being seventy years old. The vineyard is farmed sustainably, and the vines are pruned with yield-limiting techniques. The beauty of this wine is the purity of fruit accentuated by the use of French Oak. Aromas of cassis, liquid minerals, spice box, and a touch of earth explode from the glass. The palate is lush and lingering with lovely depth, gorgeous layers of fruit, and perfect balance. This wine is in an ideal spot to enjoy and should drink well over the next three to five years. When we look at red wines in the world at this price, not many can compete, and this is lovely juice at an attractive price!

Wine Advocate (Luis Guttirez) 92 points! "The red 2015 Allende is a perfect example of the style of this wine. It has a sleek palate with moderate acidity and polished tannins that make it very easy to drink. It was a warm and dry year that delivered powerful wines. This matured in French barriques for 14 months, and during that time, it was racked every two months. 320,000 bottles produced."
