It has been a while since we have offered wine from Jean-Luc Jamet, who has made quite the impression in the Rhone Valley. Brother of Jean-Paul Jamet from the acclaimed Domaine Jamet, Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul worked side by side for over 20 years until they decided to split. The brothers divided up vineyard holdings, and Jean-Luc set to work, now under his label. JL Jamet's wines are just as profound and classic as Domaine Jamet but are available at about 1/2 the price. Jean-Luc's Cote Rotie "Terrasses" is his top wine, and it has no problem hanging in there with the best of them. This outstanding 100% Syrah comes from several parcels in Cote Rotie, including La Landonne, Les Rochains, and Lancement. With impressive depth and power, this has the underlying elegance and a near-perfect structure for aging. Jean-Luc Jamet's stunning wines are a must-try for any Cote Rotie fan or those looking to branch out but have been deterred by some of the Domaine Jamets pricing. 2015 is just starting to come around but has decades of life left and is so far one of the top wines that Jean-Luc has made under his label and is an insider buy for Cote-Rotie.
Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski) 95 points! "Jamet's 2015 Cote Rotie continues to show a ridiculous, impenetrable black-purple color. It's tight, full-bodied and firm, with black olive, cassis and blueberry fruit that doesn't seem to have budged since the day it was bottled. Give it another 5 years or so before popping a cork."
