It took some searching, but we finally found another New Zealand value like the fantastic Shaky Bridge Pinot Noir we offered awhile back. This winery has yet to break through to the market in the USA, but we are here to help. Three Paddles is a range of wines by Nga Waka winery, which are all farmed sustainably in Martinborough. These are very expressive wines that show the unique character of soils and vintage rather than a forward fruit. This bottle sees a bit of the whole cluster, just 10%, with aging in French Oak. This wine shows excellent soil expression with savory notes of herbs, earth, minerality, and spice while not losing its lovely red berry fruit. The palate is elegant and balanced with integrated tannins, spice, and red fruits that end on a savory, long finish. Three Paddles is in a prime spot right now for drinking with a few more years still ahead. Na Waka says they produce wine that is for food pairings, and this with lamb in a sauce would be delectable. Do not miss this.
