Another stunning southern Rhone expression from the husband and wife team behind Burgundy's Lucien Le Moine, Rotem, and Mounir have applied their knowledge of Burgundy to Chateauneuf du Pape, and the results are spectacular. The wines from R&M have a beautiful purity and elegance to them, showing a restraint we seldom see from the region, clocking in as some of the best bottles of CDP we have tried, ever. Arioso comes from a small plot in Pignan, one of the best vineyards in the area most famously made by Rayas. The vines from this plot are Grenache planted in the 30s with a meager yield of 1 ton per acre. Naturally fresh from the northeast exposure, elegant from the rock and sandy soils, and concentrated from the old vines. Every wine that we have tasted from this address has been on par with Rayas at a fraction of the price, especially the Airoso. The 2015 Arioso can be enjoyed now with a bit of decanting but has significant aging potential. This is an incredible bottle and an excellent choice for fans of Southern Rhone and Burgundy. We were able to get an incredible price on this back vintage bottle, but the quantity is limited, so don't wait!
Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 97 points! "Saturated, bright-rimmed red. A highly fragrant, complex nose evokes ripe red and dark berries, pungent flowers and exotic spices and a smoky mineral overtone adds vivacious lift. Juicy and concentrated in the mouth, offering alluringly sweet cherry preserve, Chambord, spicecake and floral pastille flavors that show superb detail and back-end thrust. Closes gently chewy, sweet and wonderfully long, with building tannins adding shape and final grip."
