2015 Stroppiana Barolo "Leonardo"$29.99
We were sifting through several sample bottles this weekend, and one of the highlights was this bottle. This is an outstanding village, Barolo, that comes from the villages of Rivalta di La Morra and Verduno. The vines are about twenty years old, and the predominant soil composition is mostly clay. It sees about 24 months in large oak barrique and is bottled the third year after the harvest. Now that this wine has had a couple of years in the bottle is starting to blossom with aromas of rose petals, red cherry, blood orange, tar, and minerals. The palate has the gorgeous fruit of the vintage accompanied by good framing acidity and some tannins still. The wine improved immensely with aeration and can be laid down in the cellar for another three to five years, no problem. I paired with a juicy rib-eye steak, and it went perfectly. It is tough these days to find a village Barolo this good under $30, so we highly recommend grabbing some at this special price while supplies last!
