Not an address that we have offered before, but such a good deal we couldn't pass it up. Located in Novello, the heart of Barolo, San Silvestro is lead by two brothers Paolo and Guido Sartirano, fourth-generation winemakers that have been honoring their family's work in the vineyard and cellar since day one. They live by their motto, consistency, authenticity, and innovation showing all their wines the same love and attention to detail. This family endeavor owns 7 hectares of vineyards and also works with trusted growing partners, relationships that have been developed over decades. The Patres is a stellar deal for Barolo from this excellent vintage and easily one of the best buys we've seen. Even after being on the market for a few years, there's no upcharge here, always a bonus. Patres gives an excellent introduction to this producer, explaining their classic Piedmontese style starting with Nebbiolo that has been manually harvested, destemmed, and crushed before transferring to temperature-controlled stainless steel where it macerates and sees daily pump-overs. From there, the wine ages for 38 months, with at least 18 months completed in Slovanian Oak. The Patres stays true to Barolo, with excellent ripe fruit, spices, dried flower petals, and an elegant yet powerful palate that has a simply delicious character. Patres is an impressive bottle, and when you factor in the pricing, it is impossible to go wrong here.
Decanter Wine World Awards Platinum Medal (2020) 97 points! “Ripe and opulent cherry nose. Rich and rounded, with impressive depth of fruit and power. This has broad shoulders but without excessive extraction or blowsiness; hard to fault. Who wouldn't reel with pleasure when drinking this? You just want more.”
