This is a fantastic Chardonnay from an estate in the Languedoc Roussillon region of France owned by Mouton Rothchild. Limoux is renowned for growing Chardonnay, is higher elevation than the rest of the region, and is frankly the only place in the south of France where exceptional Chardonnay can be produced. The area is known for its sparkling wines made from Chardonnay, which can be quite good, however, this is a still representation. Baronarques is an exceptionally fresh vineyard-driven example reaching only 13.5 % alcohol with an incredible aroma of white flowers, stone fruits, spice, minerals, and vanilla. On the palate, peach and pear fruits dominate with good acidity, salinity, and a lingering finish of dry extract. This would work well for the classic domestic wine lover as well as the Burgundy lover and is a fun find for us that delivers exceptional quality at this price point.
