2016 Domaine de Fondrèche Ventoux Divergente

$54.99
2016 Domaine de Fondrèche Ventoux Divergente
We have an exceptional late-release Rhone today from Domaine de Fondrèche, located in the Ventoux AOC of the Southern Rhône. The estate spans approximately 38 hectares and is respected for its meticulous organic farming and biodynamic practices. Established in the 1990s by Sébastien Vincenti and Nanou Barthélémy, the ultimate goal here is to focus on sustainability and terroir expression. 2016 is a stand-out vintage for for the Divergente Cuvee, characterized by favorable weather conditions that produced high-quality grapes with excellent concentration. Divergente is 100% Syrah, and it is planted with the Serine clone, which is the favorite among serious Syrah producers, mainly in the North. The vines here are low-yielding and have some significant age. They were planted in 1955 on a unique high-elevation parcel of limestone with clay-sand topsoil, giving the wine a beautiful expression of the incredible plateau. The wine was made using low-intervention techniques, including native yeast fermentation and aging in a combination of foudre, barrel, and concrete eggs to preserve purity and complexity. Divergente showcases the distinctive character of the Ventoux terroir with its rich, structured profile and depth while expressing a fantastic intersection of power and elegance. 2016 is the best example of all time here, and Jeb Dunnuck notes in his review that this reminds him of a Sélections Parcellaires Hermitage from Michel Chapoutier, meaning it is a bit of an outsider showing Nothern Rhone but with Southern Rhone fruit. It is simply fantastic, and it is showing well now.

Jeb Dunnuck 97 pts! "Reminding me of one of the Sélections Parcellaires Hermitage from Michel Chapoutier, the 2016 Ventoux Divergente is 90% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre that was mostly destemmed and brought up in foudre. Crème de cassis, black raspberries, peppered meats, graphite, and liquid rock notes all flow to a fat, unctuous, sexy Syrah that has beautiful acidity, fine tannin, and a huge finish. It's a true “Wow” wine that needs to be tasted to be believed. Put this in a blind lineup of top Hermitage and shock all your friends. Enough can’t be said of the quality coming from Sebastien Vincenti’s and Nanou Barthelemy’s estate in the Ventoux, which is located on a limestone plateau on the eastern side of the region. These are deep, rich, concentrated wines that offer loads of personality. (Drink by 2031)"
