Domaine des Rosiers is a new producer for us in Cote-Rotie. We do not know why it took so long for us to find out about this Domaine but, we are here now. The Domaine was started in 1976 by Andre Drevon, and today is ran by Andres Nephew Maxime, who has done so since 2013. The Domaine consists of 8.5 hectares spread over 20 different plots of vineyards in Cote-Rotie as well as Condrieu. The Coeur de Rose is 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier that is 80% destemmed and aged in 50% new 228L casks. This Cuvee is a selection of the five best casks out of the hundred, give or take, in the cellar. The casks are chosen for concentration and power, an idea that the Domaine started in 2011. John Livingstone-Learmonth, the Rhone Guru, says the Domaine has been improving for a while now, producing authentic wines from Cote-Rotie, and we believe it is an address to keep an eye on.
Wine Enthusiast 95 points! "Dark char, iron and black pepper lend an earthen tone to sultry black cherry and plum in this wine. It's richly concentrated and studded with piquant notes of vanilla, anise and nutmeg, but vibrantly balanced too. A bit flamboyant in its youth it's structured enough to gain balance and finesse through 2035."
Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 93 points! "Vivid purple. Deep-pitched dark berry, cherry liqueur, licorice, mocha and woodsmoke scents show excellent clarity and take on oak spice and floral pastille qualities with air. Juicy and expansive in the mouth, offering intense blackberry, cherry-vanilla and salty olive flavors sharpened by a jolt of zesty acidity. Shows excellent depth and power and finishes sweet, smoky and very long, with youthfully gripping tannins coming in late. 50% new oak."
