This was a fun one we tasted last week. If you like Rochohli and Williams Selyem, this would be a great one to try at a fraction of their prices. Peter's vineyard is located a few miles southwest of Sebastopol, close to the Sonoma Coast. This former apple orchard is blanketed by coastal fog in the morning and evenings. The warm sunny afternoons and daily temperature differential intensifies the fruit, resulting in good ripeness with excellent balancing acidity. There is a diverse clonal selection in this sustainably farmed vineyard: Pommard, 777, 115, and 2A.
The wine is vinified with a small percentage of whole cluster fruit and only 25 % new French oak. The wine is left on the healthy less for 12 months, then bottles un-fined un-filtered. The aroma of Bing cherry, fresh strawberry, underbrush, and baking spices give way to the palate to red and blue fruit flavors, a touch of oak, and underbrush. This is undeniably Russian River pinot noir that delivers high quality at a price everyone can afford. The Envoyer Staff tasted this, and we all give it a big thumbs up!
