Larmandier Bernier is one of the great grower houses in the Cote des Blancs that we have been following for years. Fantastic, terroir-driven wines planted on almost pure chalk farmed biodynamically with the utmost attention to detail in and out of the cellar. It was a pleasure tasting here a few years back, and it made our love for this estate flourish. 'Terre de Vertus' comes from a single parcel of Chardonnay located mid-slope in the village of Vertus. This plot has incredible minerality and balance and, after pressing, is transferred to oak casks, where it spends a year aging on the fine lees. Afterward, the Champagne is bottled and spent five years sur latte before disgorging at 0g/l. This has always been one of the favorites from this address and is a Champagne that has a dynamic interplay of the richness of fruit, soaring minerality, and excellent acidity with beautiful complexity. 2016 is a fantastic vintage for this wine and is the single best example of the Terre de Vertus of all time from Larmandier Bernier. Very vinous in nature, this is a serious gastronomic bottle of Champagne with incredible complexity and that textbook dynamic. We have low pricing today on this beautiful effort, and it's a highly recommended bottle.
Antonio Galloni 96 points! "The 2016 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus 1er Cru is fabulous. Comprised of 100% Chardonnay from two mid-slope parcels in Vertus, it is perfumed and exotic, with striking aromatics. This cuvée straddles the line between still and sparkling wine. Lime, mint, white pepper and chalk lend tons of high-toned character. The 2016 is really quite compelling. Bottled with no dosage. Disgorged: November 1, 2023."
