The wines from Louis Latour offer a great value from some of Burgundy's most prized sites at times, and this back vintage Petit Monts is no exception. Arguably one of the best examples of Petit Monts that Louis Latour has ever produced and is a rare find with little to no importation of this Cuvee to the USA. 2016 is a stand-out effort and, as Japer notes below, the best Vosnee-Romanee cru that they produced this year.
Les Petit Monts is considered one of the best premier crus of Vosnee-Romanee, located above the Grand Cru vineyard of Richebourg and neighboring the Cros Parantoux vineyard, which was made famous by the great Henri Jayer. Les Petit Monts is also just a stone's throw from La Romanee and Romanee-Conti. Needless to say, it's one of the most well-placed Premier crus in all of Burgundy, with the vineyard itself situated on a small hill.
2016 is an exceptional example of Petit Monts from Louis Latour and is the best buy on the market right now for any wine from this vineyard, new or old. This is starting to enter its window for enjoyment and should continue to develop over the next decade. Truly a top buys for a vineyard of this caliber, and right now, these are the only bottles of Louis Latour Les Petit Monts from any vintage in the USA.
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 93-95 points! "Three barrels. Not the deepest in colour but certainly a very classy lifted heady Vosne nose. Very fine, not over-done. This carries through on the palate, with a little sweet oak behind, attractive berry fruit, just enough acidity. Clearly the most exciting of their Vosne 1ers crus."
