While everyone is working with the 2018 vintage, we were able to get a bit of the Rosso di Montalcino from 2016. This is like a baby Brunello and one of the top vintages of all time for Siro Pacenti's Rosso di Montalcino. Siro Pacenti only makes four wines and treating each wine with the same care and respect. The Rosso di Montalcino sees the younger vines of the estate between 15-25 years old before they out from the Rosso and are used for higher-end bottlings once a certain age is reached. 2016 is a structured and powerful vintage for this wine. It is a great reference point to check in on the 2016 vintage while the Crus catch some Zs in the cellar and a great option to experience the splendor of the '16s without the price tag. We only have a set amount, so grab one while you can!
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) 93 points! "The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is fresh, vibrant and explosive, with tremendous energy from start to finish. Macerated dark cherry, mocha, tobacco, mint, dried flowers, licorice and spice all run through this rich, sumptuous Rosso. The darker side of Sangiovese comes through in a virile, imposing Rosso endowed with tons of structure and sheer depth. Drink it over the next handful of years."
