We retasted this over the weekend and were impressed once again by how much quality is here for the money. This is a great house pour or bottle for the holidays and in our opinion better than the most the value bottles in this range by a large margin, including Vins Avigue and is worth the few extra dollars. Check out our original review below!
An incredible Chardonnay value this usually sells around the 50 dollar mark, but we were able to get a few cases at closeout pricing. 2016 Theorize drinks way above its asking price with incredible depth and complexity for a twenty-dollar bottle. This is 100% Napa Valley fruit, with 60% seeing fermentation in tank and 40% in barrels to retain freshness similar to Chablis. The wine is then aged in 100% French oak barrels, 20% of which is new. The wine has a very high toned floral bouquet, and impressively shows ample minerality and beautiful fruit. The palate is very bright and energetic, with flashy acidity. While the perfectly ripe fruit takes center stage, there is a salty minerality that comes through on the finish and is complemented by a leesy creaminess. There is so much here at this level, and it is one of the best buy Chardonnays we have tried this year. The 2016 Theorize has Napa approach but with Burgundian detail and is a must-try.
Jeb Dunnuck 92 points! "The 2016 Chardonnay comes all from the Oak Knoll region of the valley and has a Chablis-like brightness and vibrancy paired with plenty of sweet Napa fruit. Candied lemons, honeysuckle, and subtle minerality all emerge from this medium-bodied, racy Chardonnay that has loads to love. It too is ideal for drinking over the coming 2-4 years."
