I know we have been offering a lot of white Burgundies lately, but this deal is the best of the new year so far. Vincent, and Sophie Morey have been making great wines the last several vintages. The 2016 harvest was minuscule; thus, the grapes were small and intense in flavor, producing a serious example of this vineyard. Their parcel of Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot tends to ripen early, and it from vines an average of 30 + years old. The Morey’s also farm sustainably, use native yeasts for fermentation, and about 40% new oak for this wine. Drinkable now, this wine should continue to blossom over the next decade!
Allen Meadows 91 points! "A whiff of pain grillé is present on the lemon rind, quinine and resin-suffused nose. The mouth feel of the medium weight plus flavors is relatively refined for Morgeots and this refinement continues onto the dense, rich and impressively long bitter lemon-inflected finish that is also clean and dry. This too is worthy of consideration. (Drink starting 2022)"
