Jayson Pahlmeyer created Wayfarer after nearly 30 years as one of California's top vintners. Enchanted by the wines of Burgundy, Jayson tried to purchase vines in Burgundy, but the deal fell through, and he found himself looking elsewhere for his vision. Landing not far from home on the Sonoma Coast, Jayson sought out a small Farm called Wayfarer as his canvas for Burgundian inspiration. Just down the road from Helen Turley's Marcassin vineyard, it was she who turned Jayson on to this extraordinary secluded sight. The Wayfarer vineyard represents the pinnacle of this address and is a selection of 11 different clones from 20 different vineyard blocks. The 2016 vintage shows an elegant array of red fruit, with the team making multiple passes through the vineyards to achieve optimal ripeness and balance. It's an excellent cool-climate Pinot Noir, inspired by Burgundy, and is drinking incredibly right now after some time in the bottle. We have a limited amount in stock at this special pricing today, and it's an excellent buy for Domestic Pinot Noir with age!
Jeb Dunnuck 97 points! "Leading off the Pinot Noirs, the 2016 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard was completely destemmed and spent 15 months in 45% new French oak. It offers a bright framboise, cranberry, exotic flower, and spice-driven bouquet that carries to a medium-bodied, silky Pinot Noir that has everything in all the right places. Showing more floral, spice, and forest floor with time in the glass, incredible tannin quality, and a great finish, it’s certainly on par with the single parcel/clone driven releases."
Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The 2016 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard is fabulous. Powerful and beautifully layered in the glass, it offers terrific depth of fruit allied to structure. The 2016 is incredibly tight and unyielding, which is probably a good thing for its cellaring prospects. I would not think of touching a bottle anytime soon. Today, the 2016 is primary, dense and quite concentrated. Hints of red plum fruit, floral and spice notes emerge over time, but with great reluctance."
