Here is our second round of Bernard Levet’s 2017 ‘Amethyste’ Cote Rotie. Bernard Levet’s 2017 ‘Amethyste’ Cote Rotie is a hidden gem. A 100% Syrah from the vineyards of Côte Blonde, Côte Brune, Mollard, Baleyat, Chavaroche. Levet is one of the few old school producers left in Cote Rotie, sticking to whole cluster fermentation, old wood, and sourcing from small hillside parcels of their tiny 3-hectare holdings. A bottle not to miss for the classic Cotie Rotie lover, and now with a score from Josh Raynolds.

Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 93 points! "Deep, glistening violet. Intensely perfumed, spice-tinged aromas of black raspberry, cherry liqueur and candied violet are complemented by a smoky mineral quality. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and exotic spice flavors that turn sweeter on the back half. Shows excellent definition and spicy lift on the long, energetic finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins. Made with 70% whole clusters." (April 2020)
