Here is another fun insider Cuvee this time from Burgundy. Christophe Bussion is a small producer based in Saint Romain, which lies beyond Meursault, where he mainly works with some of the appellation's top crus. We have offered a few of his wines in the past, and they are excellent examples of an underappreciated terroir made with smart winemaking. His Bourgogne Rouge, however, comes from one of Burgundy's greatest winemakers, Hubert Ligner. Christophe receives the wine already in barrel from Hubert Lignier and finishes the elevage and bottling at his cellar in Saint Romain. In essence, this is Hubert Lignier's Bourgogne Rouge, at half the price sourced from vines over 40 years old from a vineyard in Chambolle. This has always been a highlight from Ligner now made even more desirable by Bussion, reaching village level hights at times. We have both the 2017 and 2018 vintages available, with '18 being slightly more classic and '17 more generous on fruit; both are fantastic bottles. Christophe Bussion's Bourgogne Rouge is an excellent choice for those looking for a great value and for the wine lover who enjoys exploring the Burgundy's ins and outs.
