Alain Michelot can be on par with Chevillon and Gouges as another of the truly classic producers in Nuits St. Georges. Michelot's wines are made by Alain's daughter Elodie and tend to be very assertive in their youth, and it is with cellar time that these start to shine. We were able to taste with Elodie a few years back, and it was a great experience that really got us in tune with the wines of this Domaine, which are very focused on terroir. Les Saint Georges from Michelot is a vineyard-driven masterpiece with depth and complexity that is remarkable, especially for this price range. As mentioned before, these are structured bottles that love the cellar but with some good aeration and or decanting, and it shouldn't be an issue to try now if desired—classic burgundy at great pricing that keeps up with the big dogs.
John Gilman 94+ points! "The 2017 vintage of Les St. Georges from Elodie Michelot is one of the finest young vintages of this wine I have ever tasted here. The bouquet is pure, sappy and stunningly transparent in composition, delivering a superb blend of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, a very complex base of minerality, violets, a beautiful touch of baking spices, just a whisper of vanillin oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and sappy, with marvelous transparency, fien-grained tannins and a very, very long, complex and seamlessly balanced finish. Great, great juice."
