We were very impressed with this 2017 vintage of Clos village from Herestyns old vine family parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin. We have had tremendous success with this Cuvee's back vintages, and the 2017 is one of the best examples we have tasted. The vines here were a few years shy of 60 years old in 2017 and marked the second vintage that organic farming has been practiced in the vineyard. This wine sees 50% whole clusters during and wild yeast fermentation with aging in 30% new oak. It has incredibly bright red and blue fruits have a good sense of place with excellent minerality, and that classic iron character Gevrey-Chambertin possesses. This wine improved over the next two days, which is a good indication of its ability to age over the medium term. We were able to negotiate a great price here to offer this Burgundy at the lowest price in the world. An excellent cellar saver and an affordable go-to red that over-delivers. Herestyn only produced 1,300 bottles.
