We were supposed to get the Bartolo Mascarello Langhe, but we received this wine instead. We figured we should taste this bottle to see how good it is. We are happy to report its everything one could expect from a Langhe Nebbiolo. The main vineyard for this wine is on the Santo Stefano hill in the village of Monforte d'Alba, plus a few other vineyards in Castiglione Falletto. The wines from Giuseppe Mascarello are made very traditionally, and this wine is aged 14 months in large Slovenian oak barrels. Aromas of red currant, cherry, blood orange, minerals, wet stone, give way to a very elegant and refined wine. The pristine red fruits dominate on the palate with a touch of spice, underbrush and minerals.
