2017 Domaine Glennon Pinot Noir$34.99
We love tasting our client’s wines, and typically they are pretty good. The 2017 Domaine Glennon is exceptional. A red Burgundy lovers Pinot Noir made by one of the best wine-makers in Oregon, Marcus Goodfellow, and our long time customer Darin Kendrick. The fruit comes from J Wrigley Vineyard (Proposal Block) McMinnville AVA of Yamhill County and Bednarik vineyard (Home Block) Coastal Range northwest of the town of Gaston, Oregon.
Both of these vineyards are farmed sustainably with the J Wrigley vineyard planted in 2006, and the cool coastal climate vineyard of Bednarik was planted in 1988 to two Clones Pommard and Wadenswil (Swiss Clone) both on own their rootstock. The more abundant fruit of the Wrigley vineyards is balanced and nuanced ideally by the cooler Bednraik vineyard site.
This wine sees about 70% whole cluster fruit, fermented with native yeast, and sees a long elevage in barrel with about 1/3 new oak. This Pinot Noir is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with only 13% alcohol. This sounds great in words, but how the wine delivers is another story. Simply put, this is a red Burgundy lovers Pinot Noir. This wine is one of the most incredibly elegant, balanced, and sophisticated young Pinot Noir’s I have ever tasted from Oregon. Aromas of red flowers, red berry, red cherry, spice, forest floor, and earth explode from the glass. The refined palate has a polish with every aspect in perfect harmony. I like to keep young wines open for several days to help me get an idea of the evolution, and quite frankly, this wine was drinking so well I thought for sure it would not be any better the next day. Well, I was surprised it was just as good day two and even better day three! A perfect example that well-balanced wines can age incredibly well if you can keep your hands off of it. A great bottle and highly recommended for all lovers of elegant and complex Pinot Noir. We are the only retailer that has this wine in the USA!
