We have been scouring wine lists and tasting lots of bottles trying to come up with some hidden well-priced gems. Last night we tasted the 2017 Lagarde Guarda Malbec DOC and were blown away. As many of you know, our strength is procuring European wines, but with tariffs, a weaker dollar, and higher prices in Europe in general, we are looking to the southern hemisphere for some great buys. Our supplier for this wine needed to move some cases, so they dropped their price by a nice chunk, and we can now offer this wine at the best price in the world. This is an excellent bottle of Malbec with the gorgeous fruit you would expect, but it also has incredible balance, depth, and persistence one seldomly sees at this price point. Malbec can be pretty heady, as well, but this wine shows no heat on the palate and has a defined elegance not typically seen at this price point. James Suckling gave it 93 points, and we agree whole heartily with him on this one! This is drinking great now but could age another 3 to 5 years no problem. We also love that they are using Diam corks for this wine.
James Suckling 93 points! "This has a very neat feel with fresh dark berries and plums, held in focused, long and seamless style on the palate. Refined tannins. Really well delivered. Drink or hold."
