One of Domaine's top wines, we were able to get a few late release cases of this rare back vintage. Although Jean has passed away his son, Sebastien remains at the forefront of what his father laid out. J&S Dauvissat makes excellent Chablis that comes in at an incredible value, and a wine that always stands out is Les Preuses which is the only Grand Cru Sebastien works. Sourced from a less than a hectare parcel of vines around 40 years old and is one of the most powerful wines of the Domaine with lovely richness and ripeness of fruit but not lacking in acidity and minerality. Les Preuses is only one of two wines that see barrel fermentation here, with about 25% new oak used. The quality of this wine is truly remarkable, especially when considering the price point for a bottle of Grand Cru Chablis. 2017 is a rare vintage, and there are only a few bottles floating around on the market right now. These have just been released from the Domaine and are in excellent condition. The 2017 is in a great spot and should prove to be even better with more time in the cellar. A superb Chablis worth checking out at this pricing as one of the best buys for Preuses of the vintage, especially with the volume discount.
Antonio Galloni 91-93 points! "The 2017 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is a dense, powerful wine. Time in the glass brings out a good deal of Preuses mineral and floral character. As always, the Preuses spend a year in oak and a year in tank. The first year imparts a level of power and richness that, in my view, masks some of the subtleties of Preuses."
Burghound 90-93 points! "The exotic character is a bit more obvious on the green fruit, lychee, pineapple, melon, white flower and iodine-scented aromas. The exceptionally rich full-bodied flavors also possess fine density thanks to the abundant level of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm acid spine on the powerful and very dry finale that is, quite unusually, borderline rustic."
