An incredible buy for white Burgundy that shows off the beauty of the 2017 vintage, we were very impressed when we tasted this a few months back, and after patiently waiting, the bottles have finally arrived. The Macon-Villages is an excellent spot for enjoyment and drinks at a much higher level than the price tag suggests. It's one of the top white Burgundy values and is not a bottle to miss.

A fantastic Macon from Jean-Marc Boillot, we tasted this yesterday with ten other white Burgundy's from the Bourgogne to premier cru level, and this was the biggest surprise. At this price point, the Macon Villages was the winner, and after getting a bit more information, it made sense why this performed so well. The starting point for this wine is a 40+-year-old Domaine-owned vineyard that Boillot has strict control over. The parcel is hand-harvested and pressed in whole bunches before seeing 25% to 30% new wood with some lees stirring. Boillot's richer style pairs very well with a balanced vintage like '17, and it works very well and has synergy with Macon. Stone fruits, lemon oil, and white flowers lead to more exotic notes of melon, lychee, honey, and wet stones. The palate shows the richness with a mouth-coating, satisfying texture balanced by vibrant acids that stay focused through the finish. An imposing effort at this level and with producers geeking out over single-vineyard Macon's, they are a bit too steep and a little less appealing than an insider buys like the Macon village from JM Boillot at a much lower price. The 2017 is showing very well, and we have the only bottles available in the US right now, which are due to arrive Mid June.
