We have not worked with this wine for years. Yet had the good fortune to taste this wine yesterday and were duly impressed. Jean Marc has been working with this grower in Montagny for years. This terroir really works with Jean Marc’s wine-making style. The vines in this Montagny 1er are pretty old now, and Jean Marc makes this wine just like his Puligny Montrachets he produces. He does a weekly battonage, uses only about 20% new oak for 11 months. He then bottles the wine un-fined, and filtered. This wine covers the full spectrum of the Chardonnay lover. Aromas of citrus oil, lemon curd, white flowers, and, wild sage. The palate is very textural with stone fruits, minerals, a full-bodied finish, yet it maintains its sense of place, and balance. This is a fantastic bottle for the domestic or European Chardonnay lover alike. Simply put killer juice!
Jeb Dunnuck 91 pts! Crushed citrus, white flowers, oyster shell, and some obvious minerality emerge from the 2017 Montagny 1er Cru. It’s medium-bodied, clean, crisp, and pure on the palate, with a juicy, delicious style. It’s also going to evolve nicely. (Drink between 2019-2026)
