2017 Jean Pascal et Fils Bourgogne Blanc “Les Riaux”$25.99
This wine was a show stopper, and drinks way above its price point. This wine is mostly sourced from declassified Puligny Montrachet premier cru vineyards, with some Bourgogne blanc vines from outside of Puligny Montrachet. The vines are between 40 and 80 years old, and are farmed organically. Native yeasts are employed for fermentation, and the wine is fermented neutral oak along with a bit of stainless steel. Then racked into barrel of which 10% are new, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is then left on the healthy lees until its bottled unfined and un-filtered. The aromatics are text book Puligny with stone fruits, lemon curd, wet stone, minerals, and white flowers. The palate has amazing depth, tons of dry extract, and a mineral and saline driven finish. All I can say is this is a most buy, and WOW! Only 8 cases arriving next week!
