Laurent Ponsot and his son are doing great things at their new facility after Laurent decided to leave the famed Domaine Ponsot after 36 years in search of a new venture. One of the new additions to bear the Ponsot name is the Meursault Charmes, which Laurent and his crew have done a great job of Dialing in the past few years, with the 2017 being one of the top editions thus far. A classic example of a fantastic vineyard made by one of the top winemakers in France. The wines from this new address have been challenging to acquire, and allocations are very tight for these wines. We are usually only able to lock in a few cases, and right now, we have the only bottles of the 2017 vintage available in the USA, which is due to arrive in about two weeks.
John Gilman 93+ points! "Laurent and Clément’s example of 2017 Charmes is outstanding on both the nose and palate. The bouquet delivers a refined aromatic constellation of apple, passion fruit, salty soil tones, almond, a touch of orange zest and iodine. With some extended air, the bouquet develops plenty of upper register floral tones as well. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, elegant and really very long on the backend, with a good core, excellent cut and grip and lovely focus and complexity on the very long, poised and beautifully balanced finish. This is superb Charmes. (Drink between 2020-2045)"
