2017 Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot

EFW!- Domaine Marc Morey has always been one of our favorite producers for white Burgundy. We have tasted many an older wine from the domaine, and are happy to report that have been fresh and vibrant for their age. Marc Morey’s grand-daughter, Sabine Mollard, is in charge of the estate and has been the winemaker since 2003. Morey owns 2 hectares of En Virondot leasing 0.1 from a neighbor so they are the only producer for this vineyard. The yields here are typically very modest, and they use about 25% new oak in their premier crus. The Chassagne En Virondot is their best premier cru that has excellent cut, and transparency.

 

 Decanter (Tim Atkin) 95 points! Set in an isolated position on the slope above the village, En Virondot is the highest Chassagne premier cru, at 350 metres. A Marc Morey exclusive, it's a remarkable site that comes into its own in hotter years. Pithy and taut, it's chiseled, sculpted, knife-edge stuff with stylish oak and impressive focus and persistence. (Drink between 2021-2029)
