Raymond Usseglio made his first wine in 1949 after immigrating from Italy to Chateauneuf du Pape in the early 30s but wouldn't create his Domaine until 1963 after acquiring a few more vineyards. The Domaine is now run by his son Stephane, who has continued his father's legacy through some brilliant wines since 1999, starting at the young age of 22. The Domaine is certified organic and produces an array of traditionally inspired wines with a few unique selections we have previously offered.
We have an incredible value Cuvee from this fantastic producer today made from Grenache sourced from Chateauneuf proper and Lirac, which falls outside the designation and is why this is labeled Vin de France. While fun, many Vin de France wines can be lacking in intensity, and while it is a broad category, La Creation is easily one of the best around and is an outstanding example. 2017 was the first vintage of this limited Cuvee from Ussiglio that capitalizes on the pure deliciousness of Grenache and is an absolute joy to drink. These are currently the only US Bottles available, and it is a Rhone value not to miss.
Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski) 96 points! "For the 2017 Vin de France le Creation Usseglio combined Grenache from Châteauneuf du Pape and Lirac, maturing the wines in terracotta. The result is a full-bodied wine with oodles of mixed cherry and blueberry fruit. It's silky and long, a pure delight to drink for its sheer deliciousness and hedonism. Like the other limited-edition wines from Usseglio, only 3,000 bottles were produced."
