The 2018 Asphodele is our pick for the best new white wine find of 2020. A beautiful display of what 100% dry Semillon from Barsac is capable of, and after tasting, we can see a slight similarity to Sancerre with its innate purity and focus. This is on a different level from the other Semillons we have tasted this year with incredible depth and precision. The nose is deep with honeysuckle, pear, golden apple, yellow citrus, yuzu, and lychee notes upfront with lemon zest, paraffin, straw, minerals, and some honey further in the background. The palate has intense citrus and orchard fruit with a velvety texture and high energy from a focused acidity with some creamy, leesy richness finishing on a floral and saline note. A bar-setting bottle and relative value in today's market, Aphodele delivers and is a must-try!

This is an entirely new Cuvee from notable Sauternes producer Chateau Climens. Made in collaboration with Sancerre producer Pascal Jolivet, this is 100% dry Semillon, the same grape used for their sweet wines. Chateau Climens followed the method of Jolivet, and the fruit was harvested at peak freshness instead of being left on the vine for botrytis and was fermented with wild yeasts. The wine only saw stainless steel, and the idea was that they wanted the purest, unmarked expression of this "Left Bank" Barsac terroir of red clay and limestone. A vibrant and precise wine that has crystal clear purity and made bone dry with a Sancerre touch.
