This is a lovely expression of the Chardonnay grape that is drinking beautifully right now. This wine is comprised of young vines from Puligny-Montrachet that Alain declassifies. Alain works his vineyards sustainably and tries to keep batonnage to a minimum. He uses primarily 400-liter barrels for this wine, of which less than 10% is new oak. He likes how the larger barrels exchange oxygen and do not mark a supple wine like the Bourgogne Blanc. He also mentions that the minerality also really shines through using the larger oak barrels. He hit a home run here for sure, and this is a fantastic Bourgogne Blanc. Aromas of apple, lemon, minerals, saline lead to a focused and mineral-driven palate. The wine finishes with lingering green apple, citrus, and toast with lots of dry extracts. This is an exceptional buy for those that like precise mineral-driven Chardonnay and is due to arrive tomorrow!
