DuMol is one of our favorite wineries in Califonia. The wines have incredible depth and complexity with a nod towards Burgundian influence. The Chardonnays from DuMol are outstanding, and this is a significant vintage for the Ritchie Vineyard Chloe. While it is only the 3rd vintage to be bottled on its own, it will also be the last old-vine bottling they produce before replanting. DuMol has been working with this vineyard since 2001, and the vines are now over 45 years old. A dense and yet energetic wine showing an array of ripe orchard fruit with flower blossoms and wild herbs. While DuMol says this is the most forward wine of the vintage, it has a great acidic backbone keeping it in balance. Ritchie Vineyard Chloe A delicious Chardonnay that should appease domestic fans and even some Burgundy drinkers.
Wine Advocate (Erin Brooks) 95 points! "The 2018 Chardonnay Chloe Ritchie Vineyard is the last vintage of Ritchie Vineyard from Dumol, a vineyard designate they have made for 20 years. "The old vines are no longer economic," says Dumol winemaker Andy Smith, "so there's a replanting scheme going on." The Ritchie goes out with a bang—it's a gorgeous wine, offering youthfully shy hints of tangerine, hazelnuts, flint and honey-oat character. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, concentrated and expansive with dynamic acidity to lift the rich fruit, lingering in the mouth for a very long finish. It will benefit from another three to five years in bottle and should be very long lived."
Antonio Galloni 93-95 points! "The 2018 Chardonnay Chloe Ritchie Vineyard offers a beguiling interplay of rich, dense fruit and super-expressive aromatics that make for a complete and deeply satisfying wine from this highly regarded site."
