Some may know this as the second label to Forman in Napa Valley. Chateau la Grande Roche was created in an area with a unique soil composed strictly of river gravel similar to the Medoc in Bordeaux and is the only known site in Napa valley with this soil composition. The blend for this wine varies by vintage, but for 2018, it is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petite Verdot, 2% Merlot all from estate-grown fruit. Some of the Cabernet that goes into Forman is declassified to this label. Chateau La Grande Roche is never far off in quality and is treated the same in the cellar as Forman is, spending 21 months in Bordeaux Barrels. An excellent balance between the spiced Bordeaux influence and Napa fruit's lusciousness makes for a delightful wine that is very impressive and less than half the price of Forman proper.
Antonio Galloni 90-92 points! "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon will give readers a very good look at Ric Forman's style. Pliant and silky, this impeccably balanced, delicious Cabernet Sauvignon has so much to offer. Sweet cherry, dried herbs, leather and spice add lovely shades of nuance throughout. The 2018 is another inviting wine from Forman's Chateau La Grande Roche second label."
