Part of one of the old families of Burgundy who have been growing grapes for over 500 years. Francois Carillon began tending his father Louis Carillon's vineyards along with his brother Jacques until 2010 when the brothers split the Domaine, and each made their own label. Francois has proven himself as a great winemaker, and his wines are less demanding in price than his brothers, right there in quality, and rarer. Les Perrieres is located close to Les Combettes and Les Folatieres towards the end of the Puligny commune and houses Henri Boillot's Clos de la Mouchere enclosed vineyard. The wines from this vineyard have an intense minerality due to the roots having to go deep into the bedrock for water, and tons of dry extract that stain the palate. Francois makes an excellent example of this wine and is about fifty dollars less than his brother's version, only making it to the USA in small quantities.
Allen Meadows 91-94 points! "Here too notes of mineral reduction can be found on the even more elegant and slightly cooler essence of apple, pear and citrus zest. The racy tension-filled flavors are almost painfully intense yet manage to preserve a gorgeous mouthfeel, all wrapped in an impressively persistent, firm and delicious finale. This doesn't possess the sheer class of the Combettes and it needs more depth but the potential is here."
