2018 H. Billiot Fils Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé

$59.99
2018 H. Billiot Fils Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé

A recent arrival from champagne, H. Billiot Fils is a family-owned house with a long history in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims. Established in the early 20th century, Billiot operates a small 5-hectares of vines exclusively within Ambonnay, totaling 18 parcels, all of which except one are located on the prime mid-slope sections. The estate is currently in its fourth generation, with Laetitia Billiot following in her father's and grandfather's footsteps, making some excellent examples from this outstanding village. Winemaking sees rational elements like an old-school vertical basket press but is vinified in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, preferring to retain extra freshness and terroir expression of their grand cru vines. The 2018 Millesime is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay that saw 48 months on the lees and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Pinot for this cuvee is stunning, and 2018 is turning out to be a fantastic vintage for Champagne. As Galloni notes in his review, is one of the best he has tasked from Billiot and shows excellent elegance, richness, depth, and expressive character, genuinely reflecting the terroir of Ambonnay. It is a fantastic buy for 100% Grand Cru Champagne, and we have low pricing today on some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 93 pts! "The 2018 Brut Millésime (70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay) is a gorgeous Champagne—one of the best I have tasted from Billiot in some time. Sourced from Grand Cru sites in Ambonnay, Pinot's natural intensity comes through in this ample, wonderfully inviting Champagne. Kirsch, plum, spice, dried flowers and brioche race across the palate. More than anything else, though, I admire the resonance and depth here, especially for the year. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 19, 2023. (Drink between 2023 - 2030)"
