We have some rare magnums of Hamilton Russell's outstanding Chardonnay on the way, Tim Atkin's top pick for 2018 South African wine. We don't offer many South African wines, but Hamilton Russel Chardonnay is always a go-to for us. We have had the 2018 a few times, and it continues to impress us every time. It a world-class top value for Chardonnay, and the 2018 is an exquisite example of this wine. Out of Magnum, this will be simply fantastic, and we cannot recommend grabbing a bottle for fans of Hamilton Russell's Chardonnay. These are the only bottles of 2018 in Magnum available in the USA right now, and quantity is very limited, so please hurry!
Tim Atkin 95 points South African Wine of the Year! "The crop was tiny in 2018 – half of the normal yield, according to Emil Ross – but the quality and style of this celebrated Chardonnay is as good as ever. Fermented in Amphorae and 29% new oak barrels, with 41% malolactic, it’s elegant, savory and oatmealy. Citrus rather than stone fruit flavours predominate on the palate. 2020 – 2026."
Decanter (Andy Howard) 95 points! "Showing just a hint of reduction, this is a lovely Chardonnay that takes me back to the Burgundy 2018 en-primeur week in January. Côte de Beaune-like on the nose, with restrained notes of orange box and stoned fruits. This has great focus and grip on the palate and although there is plenty of weight and fleshiness, the prominent acidity keeps all the elements in perfect balance. Perhaps a bit more Corton-Charlemagne than Meursault, this is a very fine, top-class, Chardonnay."
