We have always loved the wines from Gouges, and after tasting through all of the Crus from a few weeks ago, it brought us back to why we hold this Domaine so highly. The balance that winemaker Gregory Gouges shows between classic and elegant is otherworldly with outstanding concentration, depth, and incredible structure. While 2018 is not necessarily a classic vintage, Gouges made classic wines throughout the range. The Pruliers is the most elegant of the line-up and bends the boundaries Nuit St. George's often rustic nature with superb and silky refinement with fantastic complexity. The Pruliers is only going to get better with age but will be able to be approached earlier than the Vaucrains and Les St. Georges. The Pruliers is a fine example of why Gouges is the best Domaine in Nuits St. George and highly recommended for fans of classic Red Burgundy.
John Gilman 93+ The 2018 les Pruliers from Grégory Gouges is also outstanding and was unaffected by the July storms. The bouquet is very pure and already shows lovely complexity, delivering a combination of black plums, sweet dark berries, woodsmoke, a touch of anise, complex soil tones, bitter chocolate, pigeon and a topnote of sweet herbs. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off marvelous mid-palate depth, with superb balance and grip, ripe, seamless tannins and a very, very long, very classy finish. All this needs is time to blossom. (Drink between 2033-2080)
