2018 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge

$99.99
2018 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge
Vinous (Neil Martin) 92-94 points! "The 2018 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru has a very pure, charming bouquet of layers of dark cherry, raspberry coulis and blueberry aromas, with just a touch of warmth from the slightly higher level of alcohol. The medium-bodied palate delivers saturated tannins. Lush and generous, almost New World-like in terms of fruit profiles, with a caressing finish. Lovely."

John Gilman 92 points! "The Clos des Mouches rouge contains twenty-five percent whole clusters this year. The wine is deep, ripe and classy on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet delivering a constellation of black cherries, cassis, vinesmoke, roasted pigeon, a complex base of soil and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with a long, powerful, primary and moderately tannic finish. This is still a baby and will need a good decade to blossom, but will turn out to be a ripe and very satisfying example of the vintage."

Allen Meadows 92 points! "This too is quite deeply pitched with its ripe aromas of cassis, plum liqueur, spice, floral and soft oak scents. There is very good verve to the utterly delicious and slightly finer medium weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced and harmonious finish. This isn't quite as complex as the Grèves though that may well change with time as the track record of this wine developing well is firmly established."
