With Stephane gone, the wines of Moreau-Naudet are now made by his widow Virginie who has done an incredible job of keeping this Domaine thriving. Moreau-Naudet is known for pushing the envelope of what is acceptable in a very traditional area like Chablis. Stephane stood by picking ripe fruit with limited yields and extended contact on the lees, creating wines with a bit more power, opulent fruit, and richness while maintaining the classic Chablis minerality, freshness, depth, and complexity. These are an exciting style of Chablis, and the Foret is a perfect example of the excellence of Moreau-Naudet. It is an excellent Chablis and a great choice for those that typically gravitate towards the Cote de Beaune whites.
Decanter (Tim Atkin) 93 points! "Virginie Moreau-Naudet sources her Montmains from two parcels, ageing the result in one third new wood. Since the passing of her husband, Stéphane, three years ago she has continued the tradition of making rich, leesy, complex wines with subtle oak, layers of wax and cream and fresh, focused acidity. Commendable stuff."
Antonio Galloni 91-94 points! "The 2018 Chablis Forets 1er Cru is a very complete wine, even in the early going. Powerful and ample, the Forets offers notable breadth as well as detail. It is another super-expressive Chablis in this range from Moreau-Naudet."
