With Stephane gone, the wines of Moreau-Naudet are now made by his widow Virginie. Moreau-Naudet is known for pushing the envelope with his opulent and expressive wines and stood by picking ripe fruit with limited yields and extended contact on the lees. His wife has done an excellent job of upholding his philosophy and not getting lost in the sea of Chablis, and the 2018s are a perfect example. It is what makes the wines stand out in this range while still imbued with that classic Chablis minerality and freshness with excellent depth and complexity. One of our favorite producers in Chablis, and not seeing Stephane when we go to France will always be a loss for us. Virginie is carrying the torch and doing an excellent job so we can keep drinking the fantastic wines of the Moreau-Naudet and continue to support this outstanding address. These wines have gotten rather rare and are very challenging to find at yesterday's pricing; however, we get very close here, with this stunning example Vaillons that marries very well with the Domaine style. The 2018s from Moreau-Naudet are drinking well and should prove great over the medium to long term. The Vaillons here is always great, and we think the score from Galloni is conservative because it was tasted out of barrel. We have a few cases of this arriving in July, and this is the last chance to claim a bottle before they are sold out!
Antonio Galloni 90-93 points! "The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru is another wine in this range with quite a bit of promise. Exotic and tropical, with terrific depth, the 2018 has a lot to offer, even if it is clearly an adolescent today."
