2018 Passopisciaro Passorosso

$34.99
2018 Passopisciaro Passorosso
A top Sicilian seller many years ago, it's been too long since we have offered the Passopisciaro Passorosso. Though Frank Cornelissen is the superstar here, there is a bounty of producers making sensational wines on the volcanic soils of Mt. Etna, and Passopisciaro proves it. Here Nerello Mascalese reigns supreme and is the driving force behind this region where it thrives, many vines ungrafted and living for over a century. On the high slopes, between 1,600 and 3,600 feet of elevation, Passopisciaro sources their Passorosso from very old vines between 80 and 110 years old. It's the perfect combination of the grape, the soils, elevation, and age of the vines that makes for beautiful world-class reds that are very Burgundian by nature, often resembling Pinot Noir from the Cote d'Or. A vibrant wine with a stunning array of red fruits, with underbrush, minerals, and a touch of spice. It is an impressive bottle that is approachable now and should age beautifully for over a decade, we even had a bottle opened for over a week, and it was still drinking quite well. The 2018 Passorosso is an excellent bottle from a producer with a long track record and is highly recommended for Italian and Burgundy drinkers.
