The vintage Rose from Pol Roger is fantastic, and 2018 is another brilliant vintage from this famous Champagne house, making for one of the best examples of this cuvee of all time in line with great vintages like 2012 and 2015. Here, we see the same traditional blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, a standard for Pol Roger's Rose. This goes through a very slow and cold fermentation and completely finishes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tank. Before bottling, 15% of house-made still red wine is added to give the Champagne its signature salmon-pink color. The generous dose of Pinot Noir really drives this home with magnificent fresh red fruits, flowers, brioche, and spice. Concentrated and elegant with great attack, balance, power, and an explosive finish, it is one of the best buys when it comes to Rose from one of the Grand Marque addresses, especially when pricing is considered.
While 2018 will certainly do well in the cellar, the vintage was a bit warmer, which has allowed this to be enjoyed now if desired. It is one of the top wines of the vintage from Pol Roger and is an exceptional iteration of this much-loved cuvee. We have low pricing here today on this exceptional Rose, and it's a top buy for the category this vintage.
Wine Advocate (Yohan Castaing) 94 points! "The 2018 Brut Rosé opens to a superb bouquet revealing scents of plums, red berries, pastry, almond, mandarin orange and lemon oil complemented by classy autolytic notes. On the palate, this remarkable rosé has a tauter and more fine-boned texture than usual, which is enhanced by bright acids and a chalky, saline finish. It requires patience to realize all its potential."
