2019 is one of the best vintages for Verset, and it is a combination of the weather and Alain's daughter Emmanuelle who took over in 2016. Emmanuelle has truly dialed in the Domaine in the few years she has headed the Domaine, making a few key moves like raising the wines in some younger casks and a bit more of a feminine touch, resulting in more refinement and polish. In 2018 Emmanuelle decided to make a new Cuvee and capitalize on some of the domaines top holdings, so the Signature Verset was created, a selection of the best barrels from the Reynard vineyard, the same lieu-dits that Allemand sources from which goes for hundreds of dollars. A very rare cuvee, there were only about 2,000 of the Signature made, and currently, these are the only bottles available in the world.
Decanter 94 points! "Plum, cassis and dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, with fairly soft, massy tannins, softer than you might expect from Cornas, with very ripe fruit. Juicy and approachable, which is quite atypical for Cornas, but no unsurprising for such a hot vintage. From lieu-dit Reynard, whole bunch fermented, matured in barriques and demi-muids of between three and eight previous uses. This cuvée is a selection of their best barrels. Around 2,300 bottles made."
