2019 Alain Voge Cornas Les Chailles

$49.99
2019 Alain Voge Cornas Les Chailles
We have a few cases of the Cornas Les Chailles from Alain Voge, which is one of our client's favorite addresses in Cornas. Over the years, these have been some of the best buys for the category sourced from excellent sites throughout Cornas. Les Chailles is the Doamines entry-level Cornas Cuvee which before 2003 was just simply called Cornas. This Cuvee is sourced from 40+-year-old vines from multiple excellent sites in Cornas, including Le Combe, Les Saveaux, Cayret, Les Mazards, Chaillot, and Chapuzes. Any one of these could be bottled on its own, but Voge chooses to use the fruit on the lower part of the vineyards to create this Cuvee. Vines are tended organically, and the Syrah vines are cultivated in the traditional Goblet style. Fruit is hand-harvested and sees a natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel before aging in older casks for 18 months. 209 is an exceptional vintage in the Northern Rhone, and it shows clearly in this wine, one of the top examples from Voge. We have a limited amount in stock at this low pricing, so grab one before they are gone.

Decanter (Matt Walls) 93 points! "Attractive high-toned spicy note really draws you in, partly from the oak, but also the place. Raspberries and loganberries spiked with Szechuan pepper. Voluminous but fresh in your mouth, this has marked acidity and sharply serrated tannins. Fresher and more defined than their 2018 Les Chaillés, this is well balanced, with tension and energy. Drinkable now, but will last."

Jeb Dunnuck 93 points! "Leading off the 2019s from bottle and first given the name Les Chailles in 2003, the base 2019 Cornas Les Chailles comes from multiple terroirs (Combe, Les Saveaux, Cayret, Les Mazards, Chaillot, and Chapuzes) and was destemmed and aged 18 months in used barrels. This inky hued effort offers textbook Voge aromas and flavors of red and blue fruits, violets, iron, and peppered game. Medium to full-bodied, textured, and nicely structured, it can be enjoyed today but will benefit from just a handful of years in the cellar and have 15 to 20 years of overall longevity."
