2019 Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes

$69.99
2019 Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes
We have a limited amount of this excellent rendition of Voge's Cornas VV, which recently got a big score from Jeb Dunnuck. This bottling has consistently been one of the best buys in Cornas over the years, and 2019 looks to claim the top seat as the best version ever. A classic showing of Cornas, this is one to consider.

Original offer:

One of the best addresses in Cornas, Voge, produces outstanding wines from this challenging and beautiful terroir. One of the top producers in Cornas alongside greats like Clape, the VV is sourced from 60+year-old vines from La Comb, La Cote, Patou, Les Mazards, and Chaillot. The vines are certified organic and biodynamic, seeing 20% whole cluster fermentation in 228-liter barrels, of which 15% are new. These are classic, concentrated, and powerful wines with vibrant fruit that so elegantly show a sense of place. 2019 would have been one of the last vintages that Alain Voge would have been a part of just before his passing in 2020 at 80 years old. He was a leader, inspiration, and teacher to many who aspired to become an excellent winemaker like him. It will now be up to the great team he had assembled, which are fully capable of continuing the legacy of his Domaine, with many having worked at Voge for 10 to 20 years. The 2019 vintage here is incredible, and the Vielles Vignes is a great bottle in the making that should rival the top wines of all time from Alain Voge. It is a favorite among the savvy Northern Rhone drinkers and critics like Jeb Dunnuck, often making it to his list of top 100 wines. We have the only bottles of the new 2019 vintage available in the USA right now, which is not a vintage to miss from Voge.

Jeb Dunnuck 97 points! "The 2019 Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes is similarly inky colored and has a classic nose of plums, Asian spices, sandalwood, and iron. Medium to full-bodied, with good acidity and ripe tannins, it doesn't have the sheer weight, richness, or girth of the Vieilles Fontaines, yet it's certainly a more classic Cornas that will be approachable with just 3-4 years of bottle age yet evolve for twenty years if you're so inclined."

Wine Spectator 96 points! "This is packed with succulent cherry, plum paste and blackberry fruit flavors that show hints of mulled spice, dried anise, singed tobacco and sweet tapenade as they move through. A mouthwatering mineral edge extends the lengthy finish. Cellar patiently, then serve with game for the full seduction. Best from 2024 through 2038."
