2019 Antoine Sanzay Saumur-Champigny La Paterne

$24.99
2019 Antoine Sanzay Saumur-Champigny La Paterne
The wines from Antoine Sanzay are some of the best insider buys in the Loire Valley. With holdings in great the Poyeux vineyard made famous by Clos de Rougeard, Sanzay is making some of France's top Cabernet Franc creations and at very reasonable pricing. Antoine took over his family Domaine in the late 90s when his grandfather had growing contracts and was selling off the grapes. However, Antoine had a grander vision and slowly canceled the contracts, got his vines back, and began making fantastic wines. We've offered a few of the wines from Antoine in the past, but this is the first 2019 offer. La Paterne is technically a new Cuvee from Antonie, but at the same time, it is replacing the entry-level Saumur-Champigny AC that was also referred to as the 'domaine wine.' This wine is designed to represent Antoine Sanzay's philosophy in every vintage. It follows a format for outstanding consistency featuring expressive yet pure fruit, classic structure, and an excellent sense of place. Fruit is hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation in cement vats and aging in 40% used oak and 60% neutral vats. The final product is assembled a month before bottling and shows beautiful fruit with minerals, spice, and earth—nice acidity and richness on the palate with lovely concentration, length, and tannins. Such a pleasure to drink this wine is fresh and great young but can age for surprising periods. It's truly one of the best values for Cabernet Franc, and right now, we have the only bottles from this new vintage, and it's a no-brainer at this pricing.
