Sourced from a one-acre vineyard in Combsville, Les Belles Filles is the coolest AVA in Napa for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines were planted in 2000 and are farmed organically. Dylan Lundstrom (Vineyard manager and winemaker) uses bluebirds to control the vineyard's sharpshooters and other pests; thus, one is pictured on the label. The wine comes in at 13.1% alcohol and is aged 24 months in French Oak, with 25% being new. Production is limited here, and only 100 cases are produced.
Dylan Lundstrom trained in France and then worked for Steve Mathiasson in Napa. He is one of the most passionate young winemakers I have ever met, and his goal is to produce a classic world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, which he has done with his 2019 Les Belles Filles. The balance of this wine is impeccable, with aromas of cassis, liquid minerals, graphite, cigar box, and bay laurel. The wine is gorgeous on the palate, supplying a lovely inner-mouth perfume with flavors of blackberry and cherry with a touch of a savory component. The wine is refined and focused with perfectly integrated tannins. Drinkable now, this will age for a decade or two, and while not a cheap date, it blows away about 95% of the Cabernet Sauvignon produced in Napa Valley, many of which are several times the price.
