2019 Big Basin Vineyards Pinot Noir Old Corral Estate Vineyard Eta W/O 5-20-2024
Another absolutely stunning example of Santa Cruz Pinot Noir from high-elevation vineyards from Big Basin, and if you had this wine blind, you would think it was a red Burgundy. The Old Corral estate is sourced from three organic hillside blocks planted to Mt. Eden and Joseph Swan clones and fermented with native yeasts with 100% whole cluster fruit. The wine is aged in older French oak barrels for 18 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aromas of red and blue fruits, liquid minerals, soil tones, and underbrush jump from the glass. The palate is restrained with a lovely depth of fruit, incredible vibrancy, and tons of dry extracts on the finish, which fans out like a peacock's tail. It's drinkable now because of the extra bottle age, but it should last a decade or more. This is the style of domestic Pinot Noir I like, and it is one of the best I have tasted in the last few years. Only 260 cases were made, and it's a winner at this low pricing!

Antonio Galloni 94 pts! The 2019 Pinot Noir Old Corral is a gorgeous, distinctive wine. Now with some time in bottle, the 2019 offers lovely complexity and tons of nuance. Succulent red/purplish fruit, blood orange, star anise, spice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco all grace this mid-weight, curvy Pinot. The mix of Swan and Mount Eden clones work so well. This is all charm. (Drink between 2023 - 2029)
