2019 Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot

$89.99
2019 Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot
The 2019s from Bouchard are fantastic, and there are always a few wines that stand out each vintage, one of them being the Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot. Considered one of the best vineyards in Volnay, there is a traditional saying that goes, "who has no vines in Cailleret does not know what Volnay is worth," which shows how highly regarded this site was and still is to this day. Caillerets has a special place in the lineup of Bouchard because it was the first vineyard they ever bought back in 1775, purchasing 3.76 hectares from the Carnot family, which is still referenced on the bottle. It is one of their most consistent and impressive wines, with centuries of experience cultivating this site.
Bouchard's Caillerets is one of the greatest cuvees they make, with a textbook showing of Volnays elegance, spice, and minerality. 2019 is one of the best examples of all time from this vineyard, receiving one of the highest ratings ever from Burghound, who has tried nearly every vintage of this wine available in modern times. It is a fantastic buy as far as premier cru Burgundy goes, and to get a bottle of this caliber for under $100 is no easy task in today's market. This is highly recommended for 2019 red Burgundy, and we have US low pricing here today, but quantity is limited.

James Suckling 95 pts! "This a firm and pretty red with a solid tannin backbone to the medium body. Ripe fruit with some walnut, tobacco, and floral undertones. It’s long and flavorful. Balanced and firm. Classic style. Drink in 2025."

Burghound 92-95 pts! "There is a suggestion of herbal tea on the exuberantly spicy aromas of red and dark raspberry along with a hint of violet. There is a wonderful texture to the classy and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract before culminating in a compact, serious and built-to-age finish. This too could use better depth but the underlying material, and this wine's consistently outstanding track record, bodes well for the future. One to strongly consider. (Drink starting 2031)"
